A Literary Encounter with Aram Pachyan: Discoveries Beyond the Pages of Robinson

The ‘Mashtots’ School of Translation continues its tradition of hosting leading voices / figures in contemporary Armenian literature. This time, the guest was Aram Pachyan, an original and thought-provoking figure who is widely admired in the world of modern Armenian writing.

The meeting centred on Pachyan’s short story collection Robinson. In preparation, students of the School read the book, selected their favourite passages and crafted questions, turning the session into a true literary dialogue.

During the conversation, the author shared insights into the creative process behind Robinson, his reasoning for selecting the stories, and the nuances of the editing process. The discussion evolved into a profound literary analysis, revealing layers of meaning that often remain hidden behind the ‘curtain’ of the text.

The students’ curiosity and thoughtful questions reflected more than analytical reading; they conveyed a sincere effort to understand the world and the human condition through literature.

The day didn’t end with the discussion, however. Afterwards, we had the pleasure of accompanying our guest to various cultural and historical landmarks in the Vayots Dzor region. The beauty of the landscape and the rich historical atmosphere provided an opportunity for reflection, and a new setting in which literature could breathe.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Aram Pachyan for his open and engaging conversation, his willingness to share his creative process and for creating such a meaningful atmosphere during our time together.
